Nervous system
Why are we all so overwhelmed?

We live in an urgency culture. Reply to the email, meet the deadline, get to the meeting on time, reply to the text, get to the gym, have a social life, see your friends, fit it all in. Constant doing.
The struggle to keep all the plates spinning. The rushing. The stress. Never quite on top of the to do list, because the list is always growing.
We will never get it all done. That is impossible.
But we still try.
There was a time in my life when I used to send myself emails at 3am.
A reminder for tomorrow. Something I needed to get out of my head and onto the next day’s list so I could get back to sleep.
And I thought that was normal. I thought that was what having a successful career looked like.
But I learned over time that there is a price to be paid for the constant doing.
The medicine lies in the practices and rituals that remind us of the importance of being, not doing. Slowing down. Resting. Giving our minds and bodies a break.
A walk without your phone. Time to daydream. A bath. A massage. An afternoon snooze.
Small pockets of time where nothing is required of us.
Time to rest. Time to recharge.
This is what balance can look and feel like: not stepping away from a full life, but finding a way to live it more sustainably.
